"This painting was developed from an absolutely terrible picture taken from our transportation vehicle in Iceland. However, I had enough information and memory to work with. I was intrigued by the small homestead against the massive rock, and how it manages to have a presence and make a living despite such a powerful force. The contrast of the green against the brown rock also stood out to me. I took it as a challenge to depict the clouds merging with the snow on the peak. The eye sees the difference between the two, and the painter must figure out why. By the way, snow in general also presents its own challenges."
