Greenland Shadow & Rock

"I like this painting a lot. This is an actual setting there. The rock of the house and the formation in the background are from the same earthly source. One is human created/molded, and the other divinely created. Both jut out of the Earth pointing to the sky. The human shelter is an attempt to emulate and re-create nature, to fashion and shape what has been created in the natural world. I like the way the stone in house is in the foreground is echoed in the background. The strength of the rock in both places holds the picture. Finally, the blue house in the distance answers the house in the foreground.

Another aspect of this painting that I like is the light and shadow. Greenland is around or above the Arctic circle, and even in the middle of the summer, near the solstice, there are many shadows during the middle of day, which is reflected here.

Finally, I like the colors in this painting. The blue, yellow, and green make for a cool picture. the gray of the house is mostly a composite of those colors."
